With the weather finally getting nicer, it is the perfect time to start gardening to get that lovely summer lawn! Many people believe gardening is simple and does not come with much risk, but it can. Gardening can be a workout and can cause injuries and create safety hazards if not done properly.

When gardening, make sure to have the right tools and make sure that you know to use them properly. It’s important to start off with a plan. Know what you want to accomplish, don’t just wing it and hope for the best. Warm up before gardening; make sure to do some stretches before you spend hours outside gardening in awkward positions. Don’t take on more than you can handle, make sure you take breaks when you feel like you are exceeding your physical limits.

Gardening can be a workout so you do not want to overdo it and risk getting an injury. Dressing properly is important. Make sure to wear goggles, long pants, and high boots to avoid and contact with ticks or other potentially harmful insects. Use kneepads for your own safety. Gardening can put a lot of stress on your knees, so wearing kneepads can help avoid a knee injury. Gardening can take a while, and being in the hot sun all day can take a toll on your skin. Make sure to constantly reapply sunscreen throughout the day. Wear closed shoes to protect your feet and toes incase something drops on your feet. Lastly, stay hydrated and eat healthy foods. Being out in the sun all day can be exhausting and take a toll on your body that you do not even realize at the time. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day, hydration is key!
