Access Physical Therapy & Wellness to participate in Light it Red for Lymphoma campaign
CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. (Aug 22, 2016)—Access Physical Therapy & Wellness will be doing their part in raising money and awareness for lymphoma through the Lymphoma Research Foundation’s Light it Red for Lymphoma campaign.
In 2008, at the age of 32, Access’ owner Joe Rifino was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma. During a periodic self-evaluation Joe noticed that he had an enlarged lymph node. Under the consultation of a surgeon a biopsy was performed, and shortly after Rifino received the devastating news that the biopsy had come back positive for cancer. After further testing it was considered that the cancer was stage one and that there was high likeliness of successful treatment.
Rifino was then treated with radiation and chemotherapy for six months. Afterwards, testing showed that he was in remission. Over the next two years Rifino continued with infusion treatments as a preventative measure to help ensure that the cancer would not return. Now, eight years later, he is still in remission and wants to help raise awareness of Lymphoma and fundraise for further research.
Rifino practices out of the Cortlandt Manor and Fishkill locations of Access Physical Therapy & Wellness. The Cortlandt Manor clinic is located at 2050 E Main St, Suite 4 and the Fishkill clinic is in Building 2 of Heritage Square at 2 2531 Route 52, Suite 2.
Access performs treatments to help cancer patients who developed peripheral neuropathy and weakness from chemotherapy treatments, a common side effect of the harsh medications. We have seen many improvements in the balance and stability of our patients who are affected this way.
Obviously this campaign is important to the staff at Access, and they will be doing their part in fundraising for, and raising awareness of, lymphoma.
Light it Red for Lymphoma was started in 2011 as part of National Blood Cancer Awareness Month and takes place on World Lymphoma Awareness Day (Sept. 15). All around the world, famous buildings and monuments light up red, not only to raise awareness of lymphoma, but to give hope to those who are affected by the disease. Access encourages those interested to wear red and donate what they can to support the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
The Lymphoma Research Foundation was founded in 2001 by the merger of Cure for Lymphoma Foundation and the Lymphoma Research Foundation of America, and they are the largest non-profit organization in the nation dedicated exclusively to funding research for lymphoma.
Lymphoma is the most common form of blood cancer.
